SOAP

Scriptures
Torah Parshat Lech-Lecha, 1st Portion (Bereshit (Genesis) 12:1-12:13)

Genesis 12:1-13
English Standard Version
The Call of Abram
1 Now the Lord said[a] to Abram, “Go from your country[b] and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”[c]
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people that they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, 6 Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak[d] of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord. 9 And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Negeb.

WWCF Readings
Micah 1-3

Micah 3
English Standard Version
Rulers and Prophets Denounced
1 And I said Hear, you heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel!
Is it not for you to know justice?—
2 you who hate the good and love the evil, who tear the skin from off my people[a]
and their flesh from off their bones,
3 who eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them,
and break their bones in pieces and chop them up like meat in a pot,
like flesh in a cauldron.
4 Then they will cry to the Lord, but he will not answer them;
he will hide his face from them at that time, because they have made their deeds evil.
5 Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead my people astray,
who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat, but declare war against him
who puts nothing into their mouths.
6 Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination.
The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them;
7 the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to shame; they shall all cover their lips,
for there is no answer from God.
8 But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might,
to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.
9 Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel,
who detest justice and make crooked all that is straight,
10 who build Zion with blood and Jerusalem with iniquity.

11 Its heads give judgment for a bribe; its priests teach for a price;
its prophets practice divination for money; yet they lean on the Lord and say,
“Is not the Lord in the midst of us? No disaster shall come upon us.”
12 Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height.

Bible In A Year
Jeremiah 52: Titus 1; Psalm 119:105-112

Titus 1
English Standard Version
Greeting
1 Paul, a servant[a] of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began[b] 3 and at the proper time manifested in his word[c] through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;
4 To Titus, my true child in a common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
Qualifications for Elders
5 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife,[d] and his children are believers[e] and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer,[f] as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound[g] doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
10 For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party.[h] 11 They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. 12 One of the Cretans,[i] a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”[j] 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

Psalm 119:105-112
English Standard Version
Nun
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.
107 I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
108 Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me your rules.

109 I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts.
111 Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
112 I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.[a]

Observation
In Micah, the Prophet gives message of warning to the elders and leaders of Jerusalem, heads of Israel, because they are the ones sinning personally against GOD when they do wrong to their own people because they love evil and hate good and take bribe for justice. Prophets who lead people astray will be blinded and their day will be darkness, they will no longer see because they profit thru divination and GOD is displeased by them. Yet they think GOD is with them, they are deceived by their own will and carnal self, thinking if they do the "works of GOD" their own way, that GOD is happy with them but sudden destruction will fall upon them for they have made themselves their own gods. Just as Paul writes to Titus about certain cretans who are defiled in their conscience, they profess to know GOD but deny HIM by their works, for they are disobedient to the commands of GOD. These are the same kind of people in the days of Micah, they have the form of godliness by carrying GOD's name but they are disobedient and detestable, unfit to do any good work.

Application
As a child and servant of GOD I can also be led away by my own thinking and human ways, believing I am pleasing GOD but I am actually pleasing myself and pursuing my own will. How easily anyone can be led astray and deceived by their own thoughts. I do not want to be deceived, I want to be pure and holy before GOD the LORD so everyday, I would come before GOD, read HIS WORD so HE can speak to me and reveal to me the parts that still need to be surrendered, all that still need work. I was being pruned by GOD for the past few days, cutting off any form of envy, bitterness and vengeful thoughts from me as I was facing past enemies who had harmed me and my family and seeing threats to things that would normally hurt me like injustice and unfairness. I cried out to GOD, that GOD would vindicate me from all the wrong people have done as I surrender the part of me that wants to hurt back what hurt me. I have been praying "I am laying down to YOU my hurt and pain, give me the vindication and freedom that I need from the people and wrong things that has been done to me." I am praying and asking GOD to redeem me instead of redeeming myself in a way I wanted to do in the past.
