Amos 5
English Standard Version
Seek the Lord and Live
1 Hear this word that I take up over you in lamentation, O house of Israel:
2 “Fallen, no more to rise, is the virgin Israel; forsaken on her land, with none to raise her up.”
3 For thus says the Lord God:
“The city that went out a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went out a hundred
shall have ten left to the house of Israel.”
4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: “Seek me and live;
5 but do not seek Bethel, and do not enter into Gilgal or cross over to Beersheba;
for Gilgal shall surely go into exile, and Bethel shall come to nothing.”
6 Seek the Lord and live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph,
and it devour, with none to quench it for Bethel,
2 Timothy 2
English Standard Version
A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus
1 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men,[a] who will be able to teach others also. 3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. 5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. 7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.
A Worker Approved by God
14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God[b] not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,[c] a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. 19 But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”
20 Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable,[d] he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And the Lord's servant[e] must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
Proverbs 25:21-28
English Standard Version
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,
22 for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.
23 The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
24 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.
25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
27 It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glorious to seek one's own glory.[a]
28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
Proverbs 26:1-2
English Standard Version
26 Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.
2 Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, a curse that is causeless does not alight.

for Gilgal shall surely go into exile, and Bethel shall come to nothing.”
6 Seek the Lord and live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph,
and it devour, with none to quench it for Bethel,
7 O you who turn justice to wormwood[a] and cast down righteousness to the earth!
8 He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning
and darkens the day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is his name;
9 who makes destruction flash forth against the strong, so that destruction comes upon the fortress.
10 They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth.
11 Therefore because you trample on[b] the poor and you exact taxes of grain from him,
you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them;
you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.
12 For I know how many are your transgressions and how great are your sins—
you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe, and turn aside the needy in the gate.
13 Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.
14 Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you,
as you have said.
15 Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts,
will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
16 Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord:
“In all the squares there shall be wailing, and in all the streets they shall say, ‘Alas! Alas!’
They shall call the farmers to mourning and to wailing those who are skilled in lamentation,
17 and in all vineyards there shall be wailing, for I will pass through your midst,” says the Lord.
Let Justice Roll Down
18 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you have the day of the Lord?
It is darkness, and not light,
8 He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning

Let Justice Roll Down
18 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you have the day of the Lord?
It is darkness, and not light,
19 as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall, and a serpent bit him.
20 Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?
21 “I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
22 Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them; and the peace offerings of your fattened animals, I will not look upon them.
23 Take away from me the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen.
24 But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
25 “Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? 26 You shall take up Sikkuth your king, and Kiyyun your star-god—your images that you made for yourselves, 27 and I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,” says the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.

Observation
The WORD in Amos 6 speaks to me in which it says: “Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria.... I believe it applies to all who are living at ease in this world because they are depending their security on mountains of the world, the mountain of wealth, the mountain of power, the mountain of money. Even though I live in a mountain that ought to make me feel secure and at ease but I am very insecure in it because the mountain I live troubles my soul. And so this word is parallel to the WORD in 2 Timothy 2:3 To share in the suffering of CHRIST because as long as we are in this world, the Saints of GOD suffer all kinds of tribulation and affliction in their souls because this world defies GOD and we who are one in GOD feel troubled in this world who defies the GOD we love.
Application
It is okay to be troubled, it is okay to not feel comfortable, to feel troubled, to feel not at ease because as a child of GOD we should be carrying the heart of GOD, and not feel comfortable in a place that defies GOD. This WORD encourages me, because it explains all that I am feeling. It explains all the pain, and affliction and suffering of my heart. Just as Lots soul which was troubled everyday by what he was experiencing in Sodom and Gomorrah according to 2 Peter 2:8 (KJV) says, "For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds." Therefore I ought to rejoice even though I am troubled as the WORD says in James 1:2 Count it all joy, my brothers,[b] when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
